This month, Accelerated Rehabilitation Centers will feature “Integrating Functional Activities into Acute Rehab”. Given the long list of functional tolerances that injured workers need to master in order to accomplish a safe return-to-work, it is crucial to incorporate functional testing and functional activities during acute physical & occupational therapy. This enables the injured worker to gain confidence about their functional abilities. ARC will illustrate the Functional Progress Note, which provides the physicians, claims adjusters, and case managers with quick information about the worker’s ability to RTW.

Physicians, claims adjusters, case managers, and employers alike have had injured workers that fit one of these scenarios:
* traumatic work injury where apprehension is the major obstacle with RTW
* prolonged time off work with concern about the ability to maintain productivity when working 'on the line'-
* worker must be able to perform a difficult job task on an irregular basis
* injured worker needs assist with problem solving the job tasks
* there is a job task that is difficult to simulate in work conditioning

Our March Topic will enlighten you about ways that Industrial Rehab therapists can bridge the gap between therapy and RTW, with the employee and employer in attendance on the first day back to work. It can make all the difference in the world between a large settlement or case resolution and RTW.
